Symptom of the Week: Migraines

More than 38 million people per year in the U.S. alone suffer from migraines. With it being the 3rd most prevalent illness in the world, we thought we should offer tips that may help to reduce the incidence of migraines.

Listed below are some migraine triggers and tips to attempt to reduce the incidence of migraines:

  1. Foods
  2. Environmental stimuli (noises, lights, stress)
  3. Behaviors (insomnia, excessive exercise, blood sugar changes)

  1. Spinal manipulations can help to alleviate stresses on your body.
  2. Avoid: caffeine, chocolate, coffee, soda, cocoa, alcoholic beverages, high salt and sugar intake.
  3.  Low impact exercises such as walking and aerobics can help relieve pain associated with migraines.
  4. Avoid clenching your teeth as this can cause tension headaches.
  5. Drink at least eight (64 ounce) glasses a day to ensure you stay hydrated.
  6. Seek advice on correcting your posture.
